Futures by Design streeft ernaar om KMO’s in verschillende regio’s te helpen innoveren, te groeien en/of de productiviteit te verhogen. KMO’s zijn van cruciaal belang voor de economie in verschillende landen, maar hun succes kan worden beperkt door onvoldoende toegang tot gegevens en de beperkte interne kennis of capaciteit om gegevens te analyseren. Deze kennis en gegevens dragen bij aan innovatie binnen het bedrijf en zorgen voor betere resultaten. Futures by Design heeft als doel deze KMO’s te versterken en innovativiteit in de partnerregio’s te stimuleren.

Dit project brengt verschillende organisaties in de partnerregio’s in Nederland, België, Duitsland, Zweden en het Verenigd Koninkrijk samen. Deze partners zullen kennis, ideeën en ervaringen delen om de lokale KMO’s te ondersteunen. Op die manier helpen zij de KMO in kwestie om meer data gedreven te worden en zorgen zij voor meer informatie over de economische, technologische, beleid en aanbod veranderingen die invloed hebben op hun toekomst. Futures by Design heeft een virtuele omgeving gemaakt waarin de 6 partnerregio’s worden verbonden om duurzame groei, innovatie en productiviteit van KMO’s te ondersteunen.

MKB Datalab
De Jheronimus Academy of Data Science (JADS) is een samenwerking tussen twee Nederlandse universiteiten (Tilburg en Eindhoven). Het brengt top academici samen om het veld van Data Science uit te breiden. JADS krijgt dit voor elkaar door de technische kennis van de TU/e te combineren met de juridische en sociaal economische kennis van Tilburg University. JADS heeft ruimte voor onder andere start-ups, scale-ups, accelarators en corporate entrepreneurs. Het verspreiden van de verschillende kennis en expertise in huis over de academici, de bedrijven en de gemeente zorgt voor synergie. Het MKB Datalab maakt deel uit van JADS.
Rol in FbD
Het MKB Datalab ontwikkelt een module waarbij MKB’ers (Middelgrote en Kleine Bedrijven, in Vlaanderen KMO’s genoemd) worden getraind om met data-gedreven methodes aan de slag te gaan. Samen met de verschillende hubs, is dit een van de twee hoofdonderdelen van het FbD project. Het level van data analyse en bijkomende expertise is binnen het MKB Datalab van een hoger niveau dan de andere landen die zijn aangesloten bij het FbD project. Hierdoor zijn de partners erg enthousiast over de samenwerking met het MKB Datalab om tot een data-gedreven model te komen door het ontwikkelen van standaarden, manifesten en toegankelijke tools. Het MKB Datalab neemt ook deel aan de lokale hub in Antwerp-Noord-Brabant. Sirris is het particuliere non-profit onderzoekscentrum van de Belgische technische industrie. Het is bekend in 5 verschillende domeinen: ICT, advanced manufacturing, mechatronics, materials and sustainability. Hun Data en AI Compentence Centre helpt de industrie op het gebied van product en dienst innovaties door slim gebruik te maken van data science en hierbij real-world data te faciliteren.
Rol in FbD
Sirris draagt bij aan het FbD project door 1) het raadplegen van hun lokale KMO-netwerk, 2) verzamelen en prioriteren van hun behoeftes en benodigdheden, en 3) het concept afstemmen op deze behoeftes en benodigdheden. Daarnaast draagt Sirris bij aan het creëren van rapporten, tools en methodes (bijv. workshopmateriaal en referentieoplossingen) die lokale KMO’s nodig hebben om meer data-gedreven te University of Groningen
De University of Groningen North West Germany (UGNWG) is een publiek-privaat samenwerkingsverband tussen de Rijksuniversiteit van Groningen en de MWG Hinterland, gericht op kennisoverdracht. De UGNWG is gestart in het focusgebied Noord Emsland en breidde zich vervolgens verder uit naar Nedersaksen. Alle relevante en benodigde competenties van de RUG zijn beschikbaar. Personeel met uiteenlopende ervaringen, maar ook algemene ervaring met KMO-ondersteuning is beschikbaar.
Rol in FbD
De UGNWG betrekt KMO’s in Emsland en Nedersaksen, zet programma’s op en levert diensten op basis van de tools die samen in het project zijn ontwikkeld. Open Manufacturing Campus
Open Manufacturing Campus (OMC) is een non-profit, Triple Helix organisatie. OMC is een open innovatiecampus en gemeenschap die zich richt op engineering- en productiebedrijven (KMO’s) welke snel en gecontroleerd willen groeien als Industry 4.0-fabrieken binnen een schaalbare infrastructuur. Dit willen ze bereiken door gebruik te maken van de kennis en expertise op het gebied van productie-opvoeringen van hoogopgeleid personeel dat beschikbaar is bij Philips Lighting op dezelfde locatie. OMC heeft de ambitie om de meest productieve vierkante kilometer te worden in hightech / life sciences in de omgeving.
Rol in FbD
OMC werkt nauw samen met Blenders om een entiteit op te richten welke KMO’s in de regio van de grote industriële clusters (bijv. haven van Antwerpen) samenbrengt. Samen met hen kijken ze naar een manier om de KMO’s verder te laten groeien middels een data-gedreven aanpak en de tools die ontwikkeld zijn in het project. OMC wordt door de vele KMO’s in haar gemeenschap gebruikt als een platform voor kennisverspreiding over en binnen de drie economische NHL Stenden
De NHL Stenden Hogeschool heeft ervaring met onderzoek naar regionale economie, ondernemerschap en ecosystemen. Het heeft ervaring in Design Thinking activiteiten met KMO’s (Fryslân Design Academy, Design Studio, SiGa en YnBusiness). De NHL Stenden Hogeschool werkt samen met lokale bedrijven en lokale autoriteiten. Het FbD project zal worden uitgevoerd door bachelor studenten uit studierichtingen zoals ‘Veranderingsproces’, ‘Duurzaamheid’ en ‘Governance’, waarbij onderzoek en jonge professionals worden gecombineerd in lokale projecten.
Rol in FbD
Lokale KMO’s worden geconfronteerd met snelle (technologische) veranderingen die bestaande bedrijfsmodellen verstoren. NHL Stenden Hogeschool betrekt deze KMO’s en faciliteert workshops en stages voor studenten om verandering in bedrijfsmodellen en bedrijfspraktijken te ontwikkelen, waarbij data wordt gebruikt om bedrijfsgroei te garanderen. NHL Stenden Hogeschool verspreidt de resultaten onder studenten, young professionals, bedrijven en onderzoekers. atene KOM, Agentschap voor Communicatie, Organisatie en Beheer, is actief in heel Europa en draagt met ervaring bij aan het werken in door de EU gefinancierde projecten rond onderwerpen van de dienst. De focus ligt op het ondersteunen van lokale autoriteiten om hun concurrentiepositie te verbeteren en het achterland te versterken. atene KOM is actief geweest als Duits federaal breedbandbureau en de ontwikkelaar van verschillende beurzen met als doel de (internationale) samenwerking tussen bedrijfsleven, wetenschap en overheid te vereenvoudigen.
Rol in FBD
atene KOM leidt samen met het Alexandersoninstitutet de afdeling communicatie en is ook actief in de andere werkpakketten. atene KOM werkt samen met KMO’s om te bepalen wat de eisen zijn en wat voor hen werkt, op basis van de provincieregio’s Aurich, Leer, Emsland tot Oldenburg en Osterholz. atene KOM brengt tools naar innovatieondersteunende instanties en netwerken. Het bureau combineert de projectervaringen met verschillende seminars en workshops, b.v. conferenties om in contact te komen met de regionale Anglia Ruskin University Higher Education Corporation
De Anglia Ruskin University Higher Education Corporation (ARU) werkt samen met ondernemers, KMO’s en supply chains van belangrijke partijen in de regionale economie van Oost-VK. ARU werkt nauw samen met kleinere ondernemingen en grotere in bestaande supply chains, en heeft geloofwaardigheid, toegang tot en de instrumenten voor onderzoek en actie om KMO’s te betrekken en te stimuleren. ARU is een regionale universiteit met een aanwezigheid in een groot deel van het oostelijke VK en sluit als zodanig gemakkelijk aan bij de doelgroepen van het project, zijnde KMO’s.

ARU leidt het werkpakket voor operaties en is de Britse begunstigde die KMO’s betrekt bij het aansluiten op de HSKT-hubs. ARU gebruikt de workshops om kennis te delen en open innovatie te stimuleren, zodat een gedeeld platform ontstaat. Provinsje Fryslân
Provinsje Fryslân (Lees: Provincie Friesland) is een provinciale overheidsorganisatie met circa 900 medewerkers. De taken en verantwoordelijkheden zijn het bevorderen van de welvaart en het welzijn van de inwoners. Het beleid van de provincie is om de regionale economie te stimuleren door het initiëren, faciliteren en ondersteunen van innovatieprocessen voor regionale bedrijven. b.v. op het gebied van circulaire economie en over de grenzen kijken. Internationale samenwerking is een van haar prioriteiten.

De Provinsje Fryslân is de Hoofdbegunstigde en de procescoördinator en de facilitator voor de projectuitvoering. Het Alexandersoninstitutet draagt met competentie en jarenlange ervaring bij aan het werken in projecten met bedrijfsontwikkeling en duurzame ontwikkeling waarin het faciliteert tussen het bedrijfsleven, de academische wereld en de publieke sector.
Rol in FBD
Het Alexandersoninstitutet heeft uitgebreide ervaring op het gebied van communicatie en verspreiding van informatie over duurzame ontwikkeling in het bedrijfsleven. Het Alexandersoninstitutet gebruikt deze ervaring in het FbD-project en is samen met atene KOM verantwoordelijk voor het communicatie-werkpakket. Rol in FBD
OMC heeft kennis en expertise op het gebied van technologische ontwikkelingen, prototyping en grootschalige productie die nodig is voor KMO’s om uit te groeien tot slimme fabrieken. Blenders heeft ervaring met de verspreiding van deze nieuwe technologieën en werkt samen met OMC om actief te zijn bij het ontwikkelen van een praktische en duurzame entiteit die KMO’s samenbrengt in het hinterland van de grote industriële clusters. Blenders zorgt voor een correcte kennis- en ervaringsuitwisseling en uitvoering van de projectambities.

Northern Knowledge
Business Generator Groningen (BG) helpt bij het overdragen van de bij het UMCG en RUG verkregen kennis aan bedrijven door samenwerkingen en licentiemogelijkheden te initiëren. Het proces van kennisoverdracht omvat meerdere stappen en BG helpt bij elk ervan (bijv. screening van ideeën, verkrijgen van IP-bescherming, identificeren van partners of klanten en onderhandelen van overeenkomsten). BG ondersteunt ook startende ondernemers en bedrijven bij hun strategieontwikkeling, bedrijfsplanning, organisatorische structurering en financiële evaluaties.
Rol in FBD
BG betrekt KMO’s, zet programma’s op en levert diensten op basis van de in het project samen ontwikkelde tools.
